OBD-II trouble code
P00C6: Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low – Engine Cranking
Application matters: Ford’s covered 2024–2025 gasoline example separates cranking pressure from normal pressure-control and sensor-circuit checks. Use the actual engine and fuel-system procedure rather than transferring its monitor to a different fuel architecture.
Fuel-rail pressure is reported too low during engine cranking. The starting-state distinction matters; the code alone does not identify a pump, regulator, injector or pressure sensor for replacement.

A code alone cannot establish whether driving is safe. Stop safely for a red brake or oil-pressure warning, overheating, severe misfire, stalling, or impaired braking or steering, and follow the owner's manual. Restraints faults can reduce crash protection even when the vehicle runs normally.

What does P00C6 mean?
P00C6 concerns fuel-rail pressure during engine cranking. The reported low-pressure condition belongs to that starting-state assessment, not automatically to normal running pressure or a high/low sensor-voltage fault. Keep the complete code and the actual starting history together.
Ford’s July 2024 gasoline OBD summary provides an example in its cranking functional-check section. It lists prior normal-pressure assessments and named pressure/control inputs before this result can set. The same pages distinguish normal pressure control and electrical sensor-circuit monitoring. These are separate diagnostic subjects, not interchangeable names for one failed part.
A monitor prerequisite list does not independently prove that the pump, regulator, feedback or wiring is physically healthy. The technician must use the actual vehicle procedure to establish whether the reported pressure and control information are credible and what caused the starting-state result. P00C6 by itself does not select a lift pump, high-pressure pump, injector, regulator or sensor.
Describe whether there was difficult starting, an unusually long crank, failure to start or another symptom already observed. Do not keep operating the starter, attempt repeated priming or clear memory in an effort to create a better test. A current normal start also does not replace the evidence from the original event.
Fuel-system diagnosis requires the prescribed pressure and electrical precautions. Leave line or rail opening, gauge connections, activation and connected tests to qualified service. Do not use a generic pressure value or another engine’s sensor-voltage conversion to judge the system. Follow vehicle warnings and obtain assistance for a fuel odor or leak, unsafe running or inability to operate normally.
Ask the repairer which findings identify the fault and justify the proposed work. A useful quote separates diagnosis, confirmed parts or repairs, required ancillary work and verification. There is no universal pump-first sequence or repair price supplied by the cranking-pressure label.
Possible causes
- A cranking fuel-pressure generation or control condition established by the matched diagnosis
- Another confirmed fuel-system or pressure-measurement contribution to the reported cranking result
Symptoms
- P00C6 or its complete manufacturer form saved with an engine warning
- Difficult, prolonged or failed starting if actually present during the event
- Companion pressure-control or sensor-circuit reports that require separate interpretation
Diagnostic steps
Save the full scan report, code status, and available freeze-frame data before clearing anything. Confirm the reporting module, any failure-type suffix, and the procedure for the exact vehicle. The steps below are an overview; use manufacturer specifications and safety procedures for testing.
- 1.Preserve the full fault record, status and available event data; report the original starting behavior and recent service already known.
- 2.Have the actual cranking-pressure monitor and fuel-system configuration identified for the engine.
- 3.Ask the technician to assess the pressure/control evidence and relevant companion results rather than selecting a pump from the title.
- 4.Leave pressurized fuel access, gauge or electrical connections and activation tests to qualified personnel. Do not repeatedly crank, prime or open lines as an owner test.
- 5.Authorize only the demonstrated repair and its required confirmation; request an itemized vehicle-specific plan.
Repair cost

A trouble code alone does not price the repair. Ask the shop to identify the confirmed fault and itemize diagnosis, parts, labor, programming or calibration, and taxes.

DIY vs shop
A qualified shop is recommended because this can involve vehicle-specific fuel-system testing; any high-pressure work also requires the prescribed pressure-release and handling precautions. Ask the technician what testing confirmed the repair.
