OBD-II trouble code
P010E: Mass Air Flow Sensor B Circuit Intermittent
Application matters: The intermittent/erratic designation applies to the manufacturer-identified MAF B input. It does not establish recovery or history-only status. Use the complete DTC, status and actual vehicle procedure to assess both the event and the present condition.
The MAF B monitor recorded an intermittent or erratic condition. The fault may still be present; preserve event information and use protected professional diagnosis rather than provoking it.

A code alone cannot establish whether driving is safe. Stop safely for a red brake or oil-pressure warning, overheating, severe misfire, stalling, or impaired braking or steering, and follow the owner's manual. Restraints faults can reduce crash protection even when the vehicle runs normally.

What does P010E mean?
P010E identifies an intermittent or erratic condition at mass airflow input B. The designation does not promise that the signal recovered, that the code is history-only or that live measurements will now pass. The current condition must be assessed separately from the monitor’s recorded event.
In the cited Ford digital MAF example, the intermittent monitor counts repeated open/short occurrences. That is an application-specific detection method, not proof that every P010E is a loose terminal or a fault that can be found by flexing a harness. Sensor and circuit faults must be separated using the vehicle’s diagnostic procedure.
Save freeze-frame information, code status and an accurate account of naturally occurring symptoms. Those records remain useful alongside professional live data and electrical testing; they are not the only available evidence. Do not recreate the complaint by moving powered wiring, tapping a sensor, switching loads or adding water. A qualified repairer can select the permitted capture method and safe operating conditions without turning an intermittent complaint into an owner test.
Possible causes
- An intermittent sensor fault established by the applicable diagnostic tests
- Poor terminal contact or damaged wiring in the identified circuit
- An intermittent supply or return fault demonstrated by testing
- A controller input fault confirmed after the prescribed circuit and component checks
Symptoms
- P010E stored with a check-engine warning
- An occasional hesitation, stall, uneven idle or power loss
- Airflow data that is erratic during the fault or abnormal when later checked
- Other airflow or driveability codes recorded with the event
- Few noticeable symptoms during a particular inspection
Diagnostic steps
Save the full scan report, code status, and available freeze-frame data before clearing anything. Confirm the reporting module, any failure-type suffix, and the procedure for the exact vehicle. The steps below are an overview; use manufacturer specifications and safety procedures for testing.
- 1.Save the full DTC, current status, event data and companion codes before clearing anything. Record when symptoms occurred naturally; do not deliberately recreate a stall or loss of power.
- 2.Identify the actual B input and obtain the matched intermittent-fault procedure. Do not assume the fault recovered or that every present electrical reading will be normal.
- 3.With the ignition off and engine stopped, note safely visible damage or loose intake connections for the repairer. Avoid touching the sensing element or dismantling unfamiliar connectors.
- 4.Have a technician assess both recorded events and present live data with the prescribed protected equipment. A normal reading at one moment does not rule out the event, and an abnormal present reading remains useful evidence.
- 5.Leave any connected capture or circuit-isolation work to the qualified repairer following the vehicle procedure. Do not flex live wiring, tap components, add water or operate loads to provoke a fault.
- 6.Repair the demonstrated cause and complete the specified confirmation. Document what was verified; absence of a recurrence during one check does not guarantee the fault cannot return.
Repair cost
Get a vehicle-specific estimate after diagnosis.
A trouble code alone does not price the repair. Ask the shop to identify the confirmed fault and itemize diagnosis, parts, labor, programming or calibration, and taxes.

DIY vs shop
A qualified shop is recommended because this can involve vehicle-specific fuel-system testing; any high-pressure work also requires the prescribed pressure-release and handling precautions. Ask the technician what testing confirmed the repair.
