What does P0774 mean?
P0774 sets when the TCM sees the shift solenoid E circuit behave erratically — electrically fine one moment, open or out of range the next. Where the electrical code catches a hard, repeatable fault, the intermittent code catches a connection that only fails sometimes: when the harness heats up and expands, when the car hits a bump, or when corrosion at a pin makes contact marginal. That's what makes intermittent codes frustrating — by the time you test the circuit in the driveway, it often measures perfectly.
The usual suspects are the same as any transmission electrical fault, weighted toward things that move or change with temperature. A corroded or loose pin at the transmission case connector is the classic cause, because a marginal contact opens and closes with vibration. A chafed harness that grounds out only when the engine rocks under load behaves the same way. Inside the solenoid, a coil winding that opens as it heats up and reconnects as it cools produces a fault that appears on long drives and vanishes overnight — a pattern worth noting when it happens, because it points straight at a thermal failure.
Symptoms typically come and go with the fault: mostly-normal shifting interrupted by occasional harsh shifts, a briefly missing gear, or a spell of limp mode that clears after a restart.
