What does P0775 mean?

P0775 is the general, unqualified fault code for pressure control solenoid "B." It sets when the transmission control module or PCM concludes that the second pressure control solenoid is not doing what it was told, without narrowing down why. That makes it the parent of the more specific codes in its family: P0776 blames performance or a valve stuck off, P0777 a valve stuck on, and P0778 a purely electrical fault. Some manufacturers set P0775 first and refine it into one of those on a later drive cycle; others only ever use P0775.

What solenoid "B" physically controls varies more than people expect. On many transmissions the A solenoid handles mainline pressure while B modulates a specific clutch circuit or a secondary pressure regulator. On others, particularly CVTs and some modern eight- and ten-speed units, B controls a different pressure circuit entirely. Is it safe to drive with P0775?
