P0295: Cylinder 12 Injector Circuit High
Higher-than-expected voltage on the cylinder 12 injector control wire, which almost always means an open circuit. The fastest way to narrow it is to decide whether the break is on the shared feed side or the individual control side — the stored code list tells you which, before you touch anything.

What does P0295 mean?
The engine control module (ECM) switches the ground side of each injector to fire it. When the ECM commands cylinder 12 on, that control wire should be pulled down toward ground; when it releases, the line returns near battery voltage. P0295 sets when the line stays high when it should have gone low. In practice that means an OPEN — something in the path is no longer completing the circuit, so the ECM's driver has nothing to pull down.
The single most useful way to think about an injector circuit is that it has two halves with very different diagnostic value. The FEED half is shared: battery voltage arrives at a group of injectors — typically a whole bank on a V12 — through a common fuse, relay, or module-supplied line. The CONTROL half is individual: one wire per injector, from that injector back to its driver in the module. An open on the shared half takes out every injector downstream at once. An open on the individual half takes out exactly one.
That gives you a free diagnosis from the code list alone, before a meter comes out. P0295 stored by itself means the break is on the individual control side — cylinder 12's own wire, its own terminal, its own coil, or its own driver. P0295 stored together with a run of other injector circuit-high codes on the same bank means the break is on the shared feed side, and you should be checking a fuse, a relay, or a splice rather than pricing injectors. Reading it the wrong way round is how people end up buying a bank's worth of low-volume V12 injectors to fix a blown fuse.
Opens themselves live at joints, not in the middle of wire. Copper is reliable along its length; circuits come apart at terminals, splices, ground points and connector interfaces, because that is where corrosion, vibration, heat cycling and mechanical strain concentrate. Cylinder 12 sits at the very end of its harness branch, downstream of every intermediate connector on that bank, in the region where support brackets tend to run out and the wiring moves most. A loose or corroded connector is the most likely single finding on this code, which is exactly what the primary sources report.
One correction worth making explicitly, because bad advice circulates on this code: injector cleaning or a fuel-system flush will not fix P0295. A clogged injector is a fuel-flow problem, and a fuel-flow problem shows up as a contribution or balance code — P0296 on this cylinder — not as a circuit code. No amount of solvent restores an electrical connection. If your shop's first suggestion for a circuit-high code is an injector flush, ask them to show you the voltage reading first.
P0295 is also the last generic per-cylinder injector circuit code SAE defines. There is no cylinder 13. If a scan tool reports anything beyond this in the same pattern, it is a manufacturer-specific code and needs to be looked up against your make.
Until the fault is found, treat the vehicle as not driveable. An open injector circuit means cylinder 12 is not firing, and a dead cylinder pushes unburned air and fuel into the exhaust where it destroys catalytic converters.
Common causes

- Open or broken cylinder 12 injector control wire
- Lost battery-voltage feed to the injector group from a blown fuse, failed relay, or corroded splice (suspect this first if several injector-high codes are stored together)
- Open injector coil winding on solenoid-type injectors
- Broken connector lock allowing the plug to work loose from vibration at the end of the harness branch
- Harness damage or an unlatched connector left behind by recent service — routine V12 work requires disturbing this harness
- Water intrusion and corrosion at the rearmost connectors from blocked cowl drains
- Failed cylinder 12 injector driver in the module controlling that bank (uncommon)
Symptoms
- Check engine light on, often flashing while cylinder 12 is dead
- Misfire on cylinder 12, with companion misfire codes such as P0300
- Rough idle and vibration, though a V12 masks a single dead cylinder unusually well
- Noticeable power loss under load
- Unburned fuel smell from the exhaust
- Poor fuel economy
- A run of injector circuit-high codes across one bank if a shared feed has been lost
Diagnostic steps
- 1.Read every stored code before doing anything else. P0295 alone points at cylinder 12's individual control wire; P0295 alongside other injector circuit-high codes on the same bank points at the shared feed — a fuse, relay, or splice.
- 2.Confirm your engine has a twelfth cylinder and confirm which physical cylinder the manufacturer calls number 12 from its own numbering diagram.
- 3.Check for battery voltage at the injector feed pin with the key on. No voltage means the fault is upstream of the injector entirely and no injector needs to be bought.
- 4.Ask what was done to this engine recently. Routine service on a V12 requires disturbing the injector harness, and an unlatched connector is a common aftermath.
- 5.Inspect the cylinder 12 connector closely for backed-out, spread, or green-corroded terminals and confirm the lock is fully seated. This connector is at the end of the harness branch where support runs out and movement is greatest.
- 6.Establish whether your injectors are solenoid or piezoelectric before applying a meter. Direct-injection piezo units have no coil to measure and their drive circuits should be tested only by the manufacturer's procedure.
- 7.On solenoid injectors, measure coil resistance and compare against the injector in the mirror position on the opposite bank.
- 8.Do a continuity check on the control wire from the injector connector back to the module connector, then wiggle-test while watching the meter to catch an intermittent open.
- 9.Back-probe the control wire while the engine cranks or runs and look for the drive pulse. No pulse with good feed and a good injector points at the driver in the bank module.
- 10.Check the cowl drains if the vehicle is front-engined — blocked drains put water directly onto the rearmost injector connectors.
- 11.Ignore any suggestion to flush or clean the injectors for this code. A circuit-high fault is electrical, and solvent does not repair a connection.
- 12.Confirm the repair by clearing codes and completing a full drive cycle, since an intermittent open can pass a static test and still return.

A backed-out terminal reseated by hand, a connector re-latched, or a blown injector fuse costs nothing but the time to find it — which is why the low end here is zero and why the code list should be read before any part is priced. A connector or wiring repair generally runs $80-$400 on a twelve-cylinder engine, mostly access rather than difficulty. A V12 injector is a low-volume part at $150-$700 each, direct-injection piezo units more again, plus 1.5-5 hours of labor to reach the rearmost cylinder and more on mid-engine cars. A failed driver or bank control module runs $700-$2,500 including programming. Diagnosis alone is typically $120-$250.
