P0759: Shift Solenoid "B" Intermittent
Solenoid B's circuit is dropping out and recovering. The fault is usually not in the solenoid but at the sealed pass-through where the harness crosses the transmission case — the one point in the circuit with hot fluid on one side and the engine bay on the other.

What does P0759 mean?
P0759 means the module briefly lost a valid electrical picture of shift solenoid B and then got it back. Before assuming the solenoid is at fault, it is worth being precise about where this circuit physically runs, because that geography is what decides the repair — and it is the reason so many of these are fixed without opening the transmission at all.
Shift solenoids are not accessible components. They are bolted to the valve body inside the case, submerged in fluid, and the wiring that reaches them has to cross from the outside world into a sealed, pressurised, hot oil bath. Manufacturers do that with a single moulded pass-through connector in the case wall. Every solenoid circuit in the transmission goes through it, and it is unlike any other connector on the vehicle in one specific way: it has hot automatic transmission fluid on one face and engine-bay heat, road spray and washing on the other. Nothing else in the harness lives in two hostile environments at once.
That is why the pass-through is the highest-probability location for an intermittent solenoid fault, ahead of the solenoid itself. Its seals harden with age and heat cycling. Once they do, fluid begins to wick along the individual conductors by capillary action, travelling up inside the insulation and out into the external harness — sometimes for a considerable distance. The effects are twofold and both are worth knowing. Fluid between terminals degrades the connection and produces exactly the come-and-go signal that sets this code. And because the contamination migrates outward, a technician who replaces the solenoid pack, closes the transmission back up and finds the code returns has usually met wicked fluid in the external harness rather than a faulty new part.
The useful consequence is that this connector is a place to halve the circuit. Unplug it, and you can test the internal side and the external side as two separate problems. Measure the solenoid through the internal half and you know whether the component and the in-case wiring are sound. Check the external half for continuity to the module, and for fluid inside the connector body or on the wires leading away from it, and you know whether the fault is out where you can reach it. That single decision — inside or outside — determines whether the job costs a couple of hundred dollars or requires the pan to come down, so it is worth making deliberately rather than by inference.
What to look for at the connector is specific: green or blue corrosion powder on the terminals, oil residue inside the connector body, terminals that have lost their spring tension and no longer grip a probe firmly, and any sign of fluid on the outside of the wires within a foot or so of the case. Any of those is a finding, and none of them requires the transmission to be opened.

- Hardened seals in the transmission case pass-through connector allowing fluid past the terminals
- Transmission fluid wicking along conductors into the external harness by capillary action
- Corrosion or oil residue inside the case connector body, degrading contact intermittently
- Terminals in the pass-through that have lost spring tension after years of heat cycling
- External harness contaminated by wicked fluid, so a new solenoid pack does not resolve the code
- Chafed harness section between the case connector and the control module
- Solenoid B winding failing internally, which is the less likely of the two possibilities
Symptoms
- Erratic shifting that appears and disappears with no clear pattern
- Code returning after a solenoid pack was replaced
- Fluid residue visible on the harness where it leaves the transmission case
- Occasional limp mode that clears completely on the next restart
- Several solenoid-related codes appearing over time rather than one consistent fault
- Symptoms provoked by rough roads as well as by heat
- Check engine light illuminating intermittently across drive cycles
- Connector terminals found green or oily when the harness is unplugged
Diagnostic steps
- 1.Start at the transmission case pass-through connector rather than at the solenoid. It is the single highest-probability location for an intermittent solenoid fault and, unlike the solenoid, it is reachable without opening anything.
- 2.Unplug it and inspect both halves under good light. You are looking for oil residue inside the connector body, green or blue corrosion on the terminals, and pins that no longer grip a probe with a firm, positive feel.
- 3.Use the connector to halve the circuit. Measure solenoid B through the internal half to judge the component and the in-case wiring; check the external half back to the module separately. That one decision — fault inside or outside the case — is what determines the entire cost of the repair.
- 4.Follow the external harness away from the case for a foot or more, feeling for fluid inside the insulation. Wicking travels further than people expect, and finding it explains why a previously replaced solenoid pack did not cure the code.
- 5.Test terminal tension deliberately with a matching pin rather than judging it by eye. Relaxed terminals look completely normal and are a classic cause of a connection that makes and breaks with vibration.
- 6.Repair or reterminate rather than replacing parts if the contamination is external. A connector repair on this circuit is a fraction of the cost of dropping the pan, and it addresses the actual mechanism rather than its symptom.

A case connector clean-up, reterminate or pigtail repair is $120 to $350 and resolves a large share of these without the transmission being opened. Replacing a contaminated section of external harness runs $200 to $450. If the fault is genuinely on the inside, a solenoid or solenoid pack with a pan drop and fresh fluid is $400 to $850. The money worth protecting is the second solenoid pack: if fluid has wicked into the external harness, a new pack will not fix the code, and a technician who has checked the outside of the case connector first will know that before the pan comes down.
