What does U042B mean?
A chassis control module is a supervisory controller that coordinates ride and handling systems — it can tie together adaptive dampers, active roll control, ride-height leveling, torque-vectoring or differential control, and inputs from the stability, steering, and brake systems, arbitrating between them to keep the car composed. It reads a wide set of motion and position sensors and reports its status to other modules over the network. The 'A' designation identifies the primary chassis controller on vehicles with more than one. U042B sets when a receiving module is still hearing from chassis control module 'A', but the data in its messages is invalid: a value is out of range, implausible, or contradicts what other modules see. The link is alive; the content can't be trusted. That is the key difference from a lost-communication code, which means the module has gone completely silent.
Because the fault is bad data rather than a dead bus, the causes cluster around whatever makes the module broadcast wrong information.
