U0447: Invalid Data Received From Gateway 'A'
A module is receiving messages relayed by gateway 'A', but the data inside them is implausible or out of range. The link is alive; the forwarded content is wrong. Because a gateway bridges several networks, this code is very often secondary to a fault on one of the buses it connects.

What does U0447 mean?
A gateway module is the vehicle network's traffic router. Modern cars run several separate communication buses — a high-speed CAN for powertrain, a medium- or low-speed CAN for body and comfort systems, plus LIN, FlexRay, and increasingly automotive Ethernet — and these buses can't talk to each other directly. The gateway sits between them, translating and forwarding messages so a module on one network can share data with a module on another. It is also usually the diagnostic access point: the scan tool at the OBD port reaches most modules through the gateway. On complex vehicles the job is split across more than one gateway, labeled 'A', 'B', 'C', and so on. U0447 sets when a receiving module is still hearing traffic relayed by gateway 'A', but the data in those messages is invalid: a value is out of range, implausible, or contradicts what other modules report. The link is alive; the forwarded content simply can't be trusted — the defining difference from a lost-communication code, which means the gateway has gone silent.
Because a gateway forwards data that originates in other modules, invalid-data faults here are very often secondary. If a sensor or module upstream on one of the bridged buses is sending bad information, the gateway may pass that bad information along, and the receiving module blames the gateway. That is why reading the full code list matters so much: a companion code on another module frequently names the true root cause. The gateway's own contributions to the fault cluster around low system voltage, corroded or loose connectors, water intrusion, chafed or damaged bus wiring, electrical noise, mismatched or corrupted gateway software after a replacement or update, and, less often, an internal gateway failure.
Symptoms range from a check engine light alone to a scatter of communication and invalid-data codes across several unrelated modules — a hallmark of a gateway or shared-bus problem. Features spread across different domains may misbehave, warning messages can appear, and in some cases a scan tool struggles to reach modules that sit behind the affected gateway. The vehicle usually remains driveable because base engine, brake, and steering control don't depend on the gateway relaying comfort or convenience data, but a genuine gateway fault can cascade across systems, so it is worth diagnosing promptly rather than clearing and ignoring.

- Corroded, loose, or backed-out connector pins at the gateway

- 2.Note which modules are reporting problems; a pattern pointing at one sub-bus helps localize the real fault.
- 3.Load-test the battery and verify charging voltage and the gateway's grounds.
- 4.Inspect the gateway's connectors and harness for corrosion, water intrusion, loose pins, and chafing.
- 5.Check the health of each bus the gateway bridges (resistance/termination and waveform where possible).
- 6.Verify the gateway has the correct, current software; a mismatch after service can produce invalid data.
- 7.Repair the upstream fault or wiring problem first, clear codes, and confirm U0447 does not return before condemning the gateway.
