C0327: Transfer Case Encoder Circuit Malfunction

What does C0327 mean?

C0327 sets when the Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) reads an illogical, out-of-range, or invalid signal from the transfer case encoder. The encoder is the position-feedback part of an electronic-shift four-wheel-drive system. As the encoder motor rotates the shift shaft, the encoder reports the shaft's exact position back to the module, so it always knows whether the transfer case is in 2WD, 4-High, 4-Low, or Auto. Without a valid encoder signal, the module cannot confirm a shift completed and cannot safely command a new one.

This is one of the most common four-wheel-drive trouble codes on GM trucks and SUVs.
